Get your golden tickets ready. The Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will make its Hong Kong debut on November 4 at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved story to life with eye-popping visuals, magic tricks, and toe-tapping music.
Based on the classic novel that has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, the musical follows young Charlie Bucket’s adventure into Willy Wonka’s extraordinary factory. Audiences will encounter chocolate rivers, nut-sorting squirrels, mischievous Oompa-Loompas, and the mysterious candy man himself. The show features iconic songs from the 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside new music from Grammy and Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The Hong Kong run stars Daniel Plimpton as Willy Wonka and young actor Oliver Wong as Charlie Bucket, alongside a cast of seasoned Broadway performers. Las Vegas magic and illusion specialist Tim Clothier brings Wonka’s whimsical world to life with inventive stagecraft and breathtaking tricks.
The Peninsula Hong Kong, the musical’s official hotel partner, will offer themed stays and dining experiences inspired by the production. More details to come.
