HK Philharmonic Rings in the New Year with a Viennese-Hungarian Gala

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is ushering in 2026 with a festive musical journey to imperial Vienna. Their New Year’s Gala, titled “Vienna of the Habsburg Dynasty,” will feature a sparkling program of waltzes, polkas, and marches from the Strauss family, paired with the fiery Hungarian Dances of Brahms and the brilliant Hungarian Rhapsodies of Liszt.

Leading the jubilant celebration is conductor Gergely Madaras, a native Hungarian who studied in both Budapest and Vienna, offering a unique connection to the two intertwined musical traditions. He will be joined by special guest artists steeped in the heritage: violinist Lajos Sárközy Jr., double bassist Rudolf Sárközy, and cimbalom player Jeno Lisztes.

The program promises an evening of elegance and high spirits, featuring beloved classics such as Johann Strauss II’s The Blue Danube and Die Fledermaus Overture, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
