Immersive Exhibition “LAIR: Relics for the Future” Opens in Shenzhen

A multi-sensory art experience has landed in Shenzhen, inviting visitors to step into a speculative future. LAIR: Relics for the Future, now open at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC), presents the work of Icelandic avant-garde artist Sruli Recht. Brought to China by the emerging art company ORENDA ART, the exhibition marks the complete Asian debut of Recht’s “Alternate Material Taxonomies” series.

Spanning 10,000 square feet across 11 interconnected zones, the show is designed as a holistic narrative journey. It moves beyond traditional display, employing custom scents, soundscapes, and spatial transitions to construct an immersive “world.” The works themselves abandon industrial logic, instead mimicking Earth’s primal processes like mineral accretion and organic growth. Pieces such as AQUAMANCY: VIVARIA (using electricity to grow crystals in seawater) and FIREMAMENT (simulating lightning-struck sand) blur the line between natural formation and artistic creation.

Each artwork also functions as a philosophical proposition. The climactic piece, PETIT OBJET A, a grenade-like form studded with over 3,281 lab-grown diamonds in collaboration with CARAXY, interrogates the seductive and perilous nature of desire.

Creative Producer Ms. Liu Jing-ling described the project as a shift from “material grammar” to “sensory space construction,” noting the complex challenges of translating conceptual art into a tangible, emotionally paced experience.
