Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar is finally making its Hong Kong debut this summer, and it’s arriving with serious rock-opera credentials.
Taking over the Grand Theatre at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from July 8 to August 1, this Olivier Award-winning revival brings a bold, high-energy edge to one of musical theater’s most enduring titles. If you’ve somehow missed it, Superstar retells the final days of Jesus Christ through the perspective of Judas Iscariot, turning a well-known story into something raw, conflicted, and unexpectedly contemporary.
What sets it apart? It’s sung entirely through, driven by a now-legendary 1970s rock score. Expect big, emotional numbers like “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Gethsemane,” and the electrifying title track “Superstar,” all delivered with the intensity of a live concert.

This isn’t just hype – the production has already racked up sold-out runs in London and a major international tour across North America, the UK, and Australia. Now, Hong Kong audiences finally get their turn.
Showtimes run Tuesday to Friday at 8pm, with weekend matinees and evening performances. Tickets range from HK$588 to HK$1,088, with concessions available for full-time students, seniors, persons with disabilities, and CSSA recipients. Tickets available online.
